Diploma in Dental Hygienist 2-year diploma program that trains students about oral hygiene and preventive dentistry. The Dental Hygienists Diploma Course can be started by a recognized Dental College which got permission from the Central Government for 3rd year BDS Course onwards with a maximum intake of 20 seats.

A Dental Hygienist plays a vital role in preventing dental-related problems from arising and it is usual for most of us to visit a Dental Hygienist at least once a month. The typical duties include the prevention and treatment of oral diseases

 

Role of Dental Hygienist: 

 

- Dental hygienists work closely with a dentist.

- Educating patients about proper oral care, maintaining the cleanliness of their patient’s teeth, and performing X-rays and other tests to assess teeth or gum problems. Are some of the duties of a dental hygienist, A dental hygienist's job also involves counseling the patients on maintaining good oral health

Eligibility Criteria: 

 

1.  A candidate should be at least 17 years of age at the time of admission or within 3 months of it and should be medically fit to pursue the course.

2. The candidate must have passed 10+2 or two years intermediate or equivalent course thereof with science subjects (i.e.) Physics, Chemistry, and Biology from a recognized Indian University or Pre-University/IntermediateBoard.

 

Curriculum: 

 

1ST YEAR:

 

Anatomy, General & Dental:

 

Deals with the knowledge of anatomical structures of the body as well as dental tissues including the tooth.

 

Physiology & Histology, General and Dental:

 

This subject aims to provide the student a comprehensive knowledge of the normal physiological and biochemical functions of different organ systems, tissues, and cells of the body.

 

Pathology & Microbiology:

 

The understanding and thorough knowledge of this subject is of utmost important as with this the student will be able to understand the pathological and microbial basis of disease processes. This will result in morphological and functional alterations in cells, tissues and organs.

 

Dental Radiology:

 

It is the specialty that deals with the understanding and basic knowledge of exposing the patient to a different king of dental radiographs and their pertinent interpretation.

 

Pharmacology General and Dental:

 

The study of this subject helps to understand the rational and scientific basis of drugs and therapeutics pertinent to dentistry as well as other diseases and conditions which may have dental implications and interactions.

 

Food and Nutrition:

 

Imparts the knowledge of the importance of nutrition in everyday life and its effects on health during deficiency disorders.

 

Dental Hygiene and Oral Prophylaxis:

 

Imparts the knowledge and importance of oral and para-oral hygiene and its effects. The students will be well-versed in the methods of oral prophylaxis and care.

 

Basic knowledge of computers:

 

Basic applications and usage of computers will be imparted for the technical enhancement of the students

 

2ND YEAR:

 

Dental Hygiene and Oral Prophylaxis:

 

Automation in the tourism industry, Importance of Information Technology in Tourism, Introduction to CRS, Ticketing process and Billing and settlement plan, A short introduction to Standard Traffic Documents (STD).

 

Dental Health Education, Community Public Health Dentistry, Preventive Dentistry:

 

It deals with preventing disease, prolonging life & promoting physical & mental efficiency through organized community efforts for the sanitation of the environment, the control of communicable infections, and imparting education to society for personal hygiene.

 

Dental Ethics and Jurisprudence; Orientation in Dentistry:

Introduction and knowledge of basic ethics in dental practice.
